The Low Standards and Pours Musicast
This Podcast is autonomously driven by a couple Detroit aged flavors...ALWAYS live and unrehearsed, never edited, unprofessional and sometimes controversial...most of the times we stink, literally. A passion for music is our soulful transportation...well, until the mothership finds us... So, if we sound mindfully interesting, get in, buckle up, it’s an unguarded moment.

Tonight we attempt (poorly) to enter into the world of electronic music. Detroit has such a rich history of electronic music and festivals - give us a listen for a mis-informed discussion of Movement Electonic Music Festival (every Memorial Day weekend) and the Electonic Forest festival occuring sometime during the year - both in Michigan.
We listen to, and discuss bands from 2022 Detroit Movement Electronic Festival - like, Duck Sauce, Huey Mnemonic, PooBon, Moon Rocks, and others... and El Carpe almost turns into a weeping child over the message behind Fred Again featuring The Blessed Madonna with a song called "Marea (We've Lost Dancing)" - the things we lost due to Covid... but the underlying message is that we have the ability to re-connect through music, festivals... and yes, Dancing. (you listeners can insert the appropriate Footloose courtroom scene quote here if you remember that one)
Kick out the jams, get on the dance floor, hug somebody... and go buy some music... and share the musical experience with someone else.
Thanks for joining us on this mis-adventure in music. Join our super schitty committee... the super secret society "the Inebriatti"... just listen live on Thursdays around 8:30 EST and type in ... "Pour me another brother" - and you are IN !
We also appear on lagoonanautmedia.com - more on that to come !

"You take a sad song and make it better..." Hey Paul - thanks for the lyrics (even though we don't mention the Beatles AT ALL in this show.)
Tonight we honor the massive musical talent we lost in 2022... poorly, just like you expect from your hosts. Eric & El Carpe roll through the songs from the bands these folks were part of... part of the bands, and part of our lives.
We played songs from bands like, The Specials, Primal Scream, The Tubes, PIL, The Pogues, Nazareth, Depeche Mode, Foo Fighters, Happy Mondays, Suicidal Tendencies, Foreigner, Olivia Newton John, (not Olivia Newtron Bomb), The Rascals, Meatloaf, Q Lazzarus, and the Stranglers... to name just a few.
Not to mention others we lost others like Monty Norman who composed the 007 Theme Song, Coolio (we did a show earlier this year devoted only to him), Jerry Lee Lewis and Loretta Lynn.
Lot of talent gone, but they left behind a catalog of amazing and varied music for us and generations to hear and enjoy... and make new memories. Thanks for all the creative talent you gave us !
Somehow we turned as sad story into something fun. We hope you enjoy listening to our mess as we try to honor the talent we lost this year. May your 2023 rock and roll (koochie-koo)... Join us for more fun as we continue to hack our way through the next year of musical silliness... Eric has some great ideas, and El Carpe is his bitch... so will do whatever he wants. It's gonna be fun, join us !
Pour Me Another Brother !

Warning - do NOT listen to us while operating heavy machinery or handling cutlery. We are not responsible for any injuries that may occur, as we are barely responsible for the words that fall outta our heads. Enjoy !
Let's De-Stress for the Holidays... Life is crazy as it is, here's two guys chatting about their 'relaxing playlists'.
ElCarpe's 80's style playlist includes: Toad the Wet Sproket, New Order, The Mighty Lemon Drops, Mazzy Star and Echo and the Bunnymen to name a few... whereas Eric's Playlist has folks like Tom Waits, Sigur Ros, REM, Cat Power and Natalie Merchant among many others.. sure - we could go on and on and on and on and ... ya know... but give this show a listen for a taste of a ton of great song.
...and I'd like to say thank you on behalf of eric and myself and hope we passed the audition.
Merry Christmas!

Welcome to our well orchestrated pile of messy musical fun. TommyB from Tennessee joins us for a romp through our current playlists. Throws the MC5 at us from NOWHERE ! Eric's got some cool tunes on replay - like 80's Matchbox B-Line Disaster, Holy Motors, Grizzly Bear, Moon Duo and Monkey3... not in that order. (random)

What band would you wanna go see - if you could when they were popular?
Who did we see?
Who did you see?
Why does anyone care...?
We talk about band like; Shakey Graves, Queen, Led Zeppelin, Love & Rockets, Peter Gabriel, The Doors, Tom Waits, Nirvana, Prodigy, The Cramps, Blondie, The Clash, James, Dave Matthews, or Dead Can Dance... maybe Natalie Merchant?
Who would you go see if you could - in their heyday - what's that band that you REALLY think you should've seen before they weren't... let's talk about it.
As always, you haven't paid for this, so if you are disappointed - you have NOTHING to complain about. Listen in to the fun that we call a podcast.
Seriously,... Pour me another Brother.

"What are the kids listening to these days?" - it's a RESPONSE show where we old guys give a 'first listen' to three bands the young ones are listening to...
Inspired by El Carpe's youngest who went to a bar/concert downtown this week - and the kiddo was super excited to see these three bands: The Happy Fits, Phoneboy and Daisy the Great - in no particular order.
The Old Fellas are gonna lend our ears and react live to songs we never heard, and give some type of commentary... Love it or not - our virgin ears will inspire our wrinkled old lips to share our thoughts. We'd sure like your thoughts too !
We are joined by some old friends and some new (thanks all) including AmeriQueeni who gives us some interesting insight / input / etc... Then of course there's the heated knock-down drag out fight between Eric and El Carpe about who had the greatest voice of the '80's... stay tuned for the bloody results. (that's Sunday, Bloody Sunday of course)
Join us for our first ever "reaction show". Let us know if we should do this again... tell us what you liked / disliked about the music we reviewed.
Pour me another brother.

You know I heard it through the grapevine... that "Live From Daryl's House" has amazing tunes ! yea, your drunken monkeys at Low Standards and Pours found some really fun stuff on the website / cable show "Live from daryl's house"... and we wanted to share our excitement with you.
Daryl Hall (of Hall and Oats) has been bringing talented artists, famous and lesser known, to his place for a jam session for the last 15+years - films and records the tunes, then shares with the world. Holy Wow - there's some gems in there... from folks like Cheap Trick, ZZTopp, Cee Lo Green, Joe Walsh, Darius Rucker, Train, various Motown stars, and so many more... doing originals and covers and simply having a butt-load of fun making the music that entertains us.
Check out www.livefromdarylshouse.com for all sorts of great music... but also feel free to join us next week when Low Standards and Pours brings you another amazing moderately average impromptu show about music.
As always, be good to each other and Pour Me Another Brother !

"Tonight's show... what songs are inspirational, emotional and/or pull them there heart-strings? We go through U2, REM, Queen, INXS, Cyndi Lauper, Dave Matthews, and many others. Honorable mention to our opening song "Biko" by Playing for Change with original artist Peter Gabriel and cellist Yo Yo Ma and others.
Eric and I also pull some unusual tunes - things you may not have heard, by VERY talented folks you didn't know about... (Natasha Cook Jenkins - a busker)
Join us for a fun (and almost emotional) romp through some great songs and stories. We are very happy that you chose to join us and listen in on a personal conversation between two good buddies that have a passion for music.
Go buy, listen to, or be a part of the music around you... and as always - Pour me another Brother."
